CTET Full Form is Central Teacher Eligibility Test, is an all-India test administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education to establish the eligibility of applicants wishing to pursue a profession as a teacher in grades 1-8.The CTET system was first implemented in 2011. The test consists of two papers: Paper 1 for candidates interested in teaching grades 1-5 and Paper 2 for applicants interested in teaching grades 6-8. It should be mentioned that individuals interested in teaching classes 6-8 must pass both examinations in order to be considered for the desired position.
Both papers (1 and 2) are worth 150 points. The test is given twice a year and is given online in a style known as CBT (Computer Based Test). The examination cost varies according to caste. The test price for the general or OBC (Other Backward Classes) category is INR 1000, whereas the exam fee for SC (Scheduled Castes) / ST (Scheduled Tribes) / PwD (Person with Disabilities) is INR 500. Eligibility
The minimal educational requirements for becoming a teacher in grades 1-5 as well as grades 6-8 have been established.
- The individual must be an Indian citizen of at least 18 years of age.
- To sit for CTET Paper 1 (primary teachers), a person must fulfil one of the following qualifying requirements based on minimal educational qualifications:
- Passed senior secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% and passed or appeared in the last year of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed.)
- Passed senior secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% and passed or appeared in the last year of the two-year Diploma (D.Ed.) in Elementary Education in accordance with the standards outlined in NCTE Regulations, 2002.
- Has finished senior secondary school (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appeared in the last year of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.Ed) degree programme.
- Passed senior high school (or its equivalent) with at least 50% and passed or appeared in the last year of the two-year Diploma in Special Education
- a bachelor’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in any field
To take Paper 2 (Elementary Teachers) of the CTET test, a candidate must fulfil one of the following qualifying requirements based on minimal educational qualifications:
- passed or appeared in the last year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed)
- Graduated with at least 50% honours and passed/appearing in a one-year B.Ed. programme
- Graduated with at least 45% and passed/appearing in a one-year B.Ed. programme in accordance with NCTE regulations and criteria
- Attained at least 50% in senior secondary examinations and passed/appeared in the last year of a four-year B.EI.Ed programme
- Attained at least 50% in senior secondary examinations and passed/appeared in the last year of the four-year BA/BSc.Ed or BA.Ed/BSc.Ed programme
- Graduated with at least 50% and passed/appearing in one-year BEd in Special Education
If a candidate belongs to the SC/ST/OBC/PwD category, the qualifying marks needed in the CTET examination will be reduced by 5%.
The following are some critical considerations for CTET eligibility:
- The candidate’s diploma/degree in teacher education should be acknowledged by the NCTE.
- Only a teacher education programme accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India would be considered in situations involving Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education).
- Following appointment, a candidate with a Diploma in Special Education must complete an NCTE-approved six-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
- Physical education candidates are chosen in compliance with NCTE laws and standards.
- Until a special set of regulations and norms are laid down by the NCTE, teachers for Art/Craft Education, Home Science, and Work Education shall be chosen in accordance with the school management and state governments.
