MOUSE Full Form is Manually Operated User Selection Equipment. It is a two dimensional pointing simple, movable and single piece of equipment attached to the computer. It operates all the work on a computer system. It consists of three buttons: two buttons on the side of the mouse and a circle wheel in between the mouse’s buttons. It connects with a cable wire to the computer system.

It is used manually as small hardware and utilizes the power of a computer In 1960, Douglas Engelbart first inspected the relationship between humans and computers. It allows the movement of the cursor to operate the function. MOUSE also stands for Mechanically operated user single engine.

History of MOUSE

In 1946, Ralph Benjamin invented the trackball, a pointing device known as the Comprehensive Display System for controlling fire radar plotting systems in the post-World War II era. Benjamin then worked on numerous projects, such as calculating the position of the target aircraft, and also discovered the input device rollerball, which was patented in 1947.

Douglas Engelbart (Stanford Research Institute [SRI]) has been credited in published texts by numerous scientists, including Thierry Bardini, Paul Ceruzzi, and many others, for inventing the computer mouse. In addition, he founded the Augmentation Research Centre (ARC) in order to develop both software and hardware computer technologies. After joining ARC, Bill English assisted Engelbart in developing the first prototype of a computer mouse with a structure resembling that of an animal mouse with a chord wire that resembles the animal’s tail.

The term mouse was first mentioned in a report written by an English author in July 1965. In December 1968, Engelbart gave the first public demonstration of the mouse’s functionality, which became known as “The Mother of All Demos.” This invention was patented by SRI, so Engelbart never received credit for it. Since then, numerous additional pointing devices, such as head-mounted devices, have been developed.

Types of MOUSE

There are eight different kinds of MOUSE

  • Mechanical MOUSE : It consists of revolving rollers, optical encoding discs, infrared LEDs, and sensors.
  • Optical and laser MOUSE: optical and laser systems It has an array of photodiodes for imaging and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
  • Inertial and gyroscopic MOUSE : Idiomatic and gyroscopic It is also known as ‘air mice’ and employs an accelerometer for rotatory movement to support rotation in all axes.
  • 3D MOUSE: Also referred to as wands, winged mice, or bats, it employs ultrasound technology and facilitates movement in all directions.
  • Tactile MOUSE: It incorporates an actuator for producing the tactile sensation.
  • Pucks: It is employed with Tablet Digitizers.
  • Ergonomic MOUSE: It is used to avoid conditions such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. that are caused by using other types of mice, and its design provides comfort to the user.
  • Gaming MOUSE: Gaming These are used for computer games and feature monochrome and LED illumination.

Components of the Mouse

The components of the mouse are

  1. Buttons: Manually Operated User Selection Equipment has two controls, one on the left and one on the right side of the wheel. It is utilised to select and modify text for cloning and transferring.

  • It is also used to launch the application and the computer or laptop.
  • We can easily copy and paste text from Microsoft Word to Microsoft PowerPoint by dragging the cursor. This facilitates the execution and operation of the programme or application.
